In May, IT employment increased by 0.22% to 5,350,000 jobs, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions Industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment has increased by 2.64% since May 2020 adding 137,700 IT workers.
Engineering employment grew by 0.13% sequentially to 2,603,400. On a year-over-year basis, engineering employment increased by 4.48% since May 2020, growing by 111,600 engineering workers.
“IT employment is now at historic levels having fully recovered all jobs lost as result of the pandemic,” observed Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. “While IT employment grew at respectable rate in May, the rate of growth decelerated from the extraordinary growth rates we experienced in recent months. I attribute this deceleration to the challenge we were confronting before the onset of COVID—an insufficient supply of talent in many IT skill sets,” added Roberts.
